Conan Movie Production Art!

Hail All!

I just wanted to share some cool pieces of production art I came across from the original Conan the Barbarian movie. These were quick basic sketches, probably done in marker or watercolor, used to get down the basic idea of how the characters will look in costume.

This first one adds to the rumor that the original opening sequence to the movie was supposed to show Conan in his "King of Aquilonia" garb surrounded by naked hotties or something and then the movie begins. I say that this pic adds to the rumor due to the word "prologue" written in the upper right hand corner as opposed to "epilogue" in which we now see Conan as a bearded king at the end of the final released version.

Here’s little Conan and his mother.

Everybody’s favorite Hyrkanian sidekick...

King Osric (notice how it already says "Max Von Sydow" on it, clearly showing that these were done after many cast members had been casted)...

One of the split-pea-and-human-body-part soup servers in the Mountain of Power. It says "Neantherthal" on it due to the original idea that all of Thulsa Dooms servants were supposed to be sub-human neanderthal creatures (I’ll be doing a whole blog on this later)...

Pit Fighter Conan...

And finally, one of my favorites, Pit Fighter Valeria! In the original script, Conan and Valeria were to initially meet in the fighting pits, but the scene got scrapped (more on that later, as well!)...

Thanks for reading, and I’ll be back soon!
