Not many people remember Atlas Comics, but I have many fond memories of collecting many of their awesome titles. One of the titles they had tried to take a chunk out of the Sword & Sorcery craze initiated by Marvel's Conan (like DC's Claw the Unconquered) was a little comic book called Ironjaw.
Ironjaw, again like Claw, was about as close to a Conan rip-off as you can get. Where Claw had a demon hand attached to his wrist, Ironjaw (no big surprise) had a jaw made of iron! This is bordering on goofy, but when I was a kid I thought this was so bitchin!
This book was a lot like Conan but the character of Ironjaw was a bit more brutal and uncouth than Howard's creation. He certainly had a way with the ladies...
Here's some info on the metal-mouthed savage...
Still, he ain't no Conan, but I always thought this guy was one bad dude. I just recently found a stack of Ironjaw comics in a 25 cent bin at a used bookstore and spent a rainy afternoon geekin' out on them.
Here's some more covers...
Well, that's it for today! Stay tuned for more Note Quite Conan posts!
