Conan Lead Miniature (I want this SO bad!)

I just spotted this over at one of our favorite blogs, Selvagens Da Noite, and just had to pass it along. Back in middle school and early high school, when I was in neck deep in playing Dungeons & Dragons, many of my characters were thinly veiled copies of Conan, to the point that my friends would groan when I described my new character as a tall, black-haired, tanned-skin barbarian from the North. Back then, I would have killed for this miniature. Hell, I still might.

Custom Conan Heroclix: Temple of the Serpent Edition!

I was going through my Conan folder (oh, like you don't have one) and I came across these shots of this badass little custom Conan Heroclix game figure that I spotted on eBay ages ago. I love how this is the war-painted Conan from the first movie's Temple of the Serpent scene.

Enjoy...

This is a Crusader Miniatures Dark Age Irish figure that I painted. The Cimmerians were based on Dark Age Irish and Scottish culture along with Robert E. Howard's own ideas.

Conan The Cimmerian miniature

Here's a mini I did a while back using parts from historical wargaming miniatures. I wanted to do a mini of young Conan to go along with my Crusader Miniatures dark age irish miniatures (which I was using for Cimmerians). I decided to use Wargames Factory's Numidian bodies mixed with ancient Germans arms, head, shield and sword. Then I used some Pro-Create to make the cape and the hair.

I wanted him to look like a basic rank and file character, but still very Conan like. So I gave him plain, drab colored clothing that a Cimmerian tribesman would probably have worn. After all, he didn't become a king until his late 40's.

I think it turned out pretty decently.

Vintage Conan D&D Miniatures!

For a hot minute back in the 80's, TSR, the makers of the legendary Dungeons & Dragons game, released a small but impressive series of game modules based on the son of Cimmeria, probably hoping to cash in on the popularity of the movies. Each module had a picture of Arnold in all is oiled glory. A friend of mine, during a sleep over the Summer after 8th grade, had one of these modules and we were going to play it one night, but when I learned that I couldn't be Conan (this other kid had called dibs), we ended up playing the Barbarian video game all night on his Commadore 64, and there was much rejoicing.

Then my friend was moving away and he was getting rid of a bunch of stuff and in the pile were all of his Conan modules and a bunch of small lead Conan miniatures still in their boxes! I was on them like a drunken Turanian on a dancing harlot, but all of a sudden, my friend's older brother was all like, "Hey! Those are mine!" and it turns out that my friend had "appropriated" them from his older brother without asking and out of sheer spite he wanted them back. Crap!

So, I was so close to owning all of the Conan D&D stuff, only to have it ripped away from me along with a tiny piece of my heart. Hmmm, maybe I'm being a little overdramatic.

Anyway, trolling around eBay one day, I stumbled onto these classic Conan D&D miniatures from TSR and it took me back to those days. I had posted a few pics of this set a long time ago, but these are larger and you can see the minis a bit better. Hell, they're even partially painted, which implies that the person who owned these actually played a game with them! What adventures have these little lead warriors seen?

More Conan Miniatures and Some Other Stuff!

Hail All!

I just keep finding cool Conan stuff on ebay and I have to share it with you all. It's like a weird compulsion or something.

Anyway, the fist thing I have for you all today is this interesting Conan statue that is either from some model kit that I've never seen before or a totally hand-sculpted thing by a true fan. It's pretty damn well painted but the face is a little strange. Still, it's wicked cool! And, is it me, or is Conan stomping on that poor dead creature's nuts? Damn! That's just mean, Conan!

Then I found some cool custom miniatures. The first one is a custom Conan HeroClix figure. the pic is kid of small, but you get the point.

Then I found this miniature that is just spilling with detail! I love this one. i would love to make one of these myself for my upcoming Conan RPG game that I'm forcing my friends to play this Summer.

And here's the real good stuff. The following are Conan lead miniature sets, probably from TSR or maybe Reaper. They come in these sweet boxes and each has 6 figures inside. They look to be mostly monsters and other NPC's, because I can't really identify one as Conan himself, unless the one in the second set in the front row to the far right is supposed to be our favorite son of Cimmeria.

See you all again soon with more great Conan stuff!

Conan Miniatures!

Most Conan fans are also fantasy fans, and many fantasy fans play role playing games along the lines of Dungeons & Dragons. I am no exception. I've always wanted to play an epic Conan RPG, like the one currently produced by Mongoose Publishing (more on that in a later blog).

One of the things you may want to use in your Conan RPG are the gaming staple of painted miniatures. Browsing around a miniature website the other day, several people had posted pics of their Conan minis and I'm just passing them along to you guys. I'm not claiming to have made these and I give great thanks to the creators for not getting mad at me for stealing their images. I just thought they were so cool that I had to show them off!

If you have example of your own, feel free to post them in the comments section. We'd all love to see them!

Check them out...
