There was a period there when the working title of Conan the Destroyer was actually Conan II: The Destroyer. Whatever. So every now and then, some old merch shows up with that title on it, making this vintage t-shirt kind of funny.

Conan Redrawn on Covered Blog!
One of my new favorite blogs is a little place called Covered which showcases classic comic book covers redrawn by various artists. The juxtaposition of the old and new make for some seriously fun eye-gasms, but none have sparked me as much as this awesome Savage Sword of Conan cover redrawn by Jimmy Giegerich.
Here's the original...
And here's the redrawn version...
Did I mention this is awesome? Because it is! It's awesome!
Crom would be pleased.

Say... is that...?
My homeboy Greg (fellow gamer and bestower of my prized Conan Mego figure, aka "Acorndog") sent me this page from Conan #13, page 2. He noticed something interesting in the upper left-hand panel. Take a look for yourselves...
Here... I'll make it easier on you. Look at the dude running in just above Conan...
Is that.... is that Thor?! It sure as hell looks like him! We may have stumbled on to a little joke from Mr. Barry Windsor Smith!
Good eye, Acorndog!

Bonan Statue?! Hahahahahaaaa!!!
Crom! reader, simply called "The Barbarian," sent us a link to this lovely item on eBay. It looks like someone took a ceramic Frazetta rip-off statue and then used those plastic binders that people use to keep computer wires from getting out of hand to attach a beat-up McFarlaine warrior chick action figure to it along with an old belt buckle that this person found at a yard sale that someone had made in the late 70's thinking he would get lots of chicks if he tried to tell them his name was "Bonan".
It's going for $40.00 right now. You know what I'd rather spend $40 on rather than this thing? ANYTHING! Also, the description calls it an "Unfinished PornoBJ Statue Project". WHAT?! Good lord...
See it in all it's true horror HERE. Thanks to The Barbarian for the link!

New Conan Movie Has New Director!
The stomach turning nightmare that Brett Ratner was slated to direct the next Conan movie is over! Thank Crom! Chud.com broke the news of the Conan project getting a new director, none other than V for Vendetta helmsman, James McTeigue.
This is what Chud had to say...
And if you don't believe me, you can read it HERE.
Yesterday we learned that Brett Ratner looked to be out of the director's chair on the new Conan movie, which possibly shoots this summer. The producers have been wasting no time in trying to get a new helmer for the franchise reboot, which after months of development still needs some script work and a leading actor. And according to my very trustworthy, very much correct in the past source, they've found their director:
James McTeigue.
The director of the first good Alan Moore adaptation (V For Vendetta) and the upcoming Ninja Assassin, McTeigue was long the Wachowski's first AD. There's no question that McTeigue has the action chops needed to bring the Hyborian barbarian's adventures to brutal, bloody life.
But will he have the money needed to do it right? My source fears that the loss of Ratner means a loss of budget. Ninja Assassin seems to be budgeted at around 50 million, and V For Vendetta was 54 million. Both look terrific - McTeigue is getting every penny on screen - but Conan will be much costlier, effects-wise. Will the current rumored 120 million dollar budget be slashed with this new director?
It's important to note that McTeigue hasn't signed any papers yet, so this deal is still in the making, but it looks like he's the guy Nu-Image/Millenium wants for the job.
And remember, the Wachowskis were once set to direct a Conan movie. They and McTeigue retain a tight relationship; might this Conan have their fingerprints all over it as much as McTeigues? That, to me, sounds like it could be a damn good thing.

The Rage of Bonan!
It took me a while to stop laughing enough in order to type out this post after seeing what has got to be hands-down the weirdest side effect of the Conan phenomenon. Apparently, thanks to the surge in Conan's popularity, stemming from the Age of Conan MMORPG, some makers of adult films have jumped on the Hyborian bandwagon and released a movie called The Rage of Bonan!
Hahahahahaaaaa!!! Bonan?!
It basically looks like this ugly dude with a sword (ahem) goes around boinking chicks in the woods. Here are some stills...
And if you want to see two ugly people looking even uglier...
Yeah, baby!
I swear to Crom, this is the funniest thing I've ever seen in my life! If you really, really, really have something against your eyeballs and want to punish them by watching this, legend has it that this movie is all over the torrent sites. Just try not to pee you pants with shame as you find yourself typing "Bonan" into a search field. ;)

Original Conan the Barbarian Film Slides!
Here's another interesting eBay find; original Conan the Barbarian films slides! Basically, somebody found an old copy of Conan and sliced it up into individual cells, then put them in slide casings. They're not worth a whole hell of a lot, because movie companies printed hundreds of reels and there are literally thousands and thousands of cells in a single real (24 for every second of viewing, in fact), but that doesn't take away from this being a cool collectible for the ultimate Conan fan!
As you can see in the bottom pic, the slides chosen are pretty nice ones, showing some of the most iconic scenes from the movie. I'd hate to order these, however and then get stuck with 20 shots of of the Wheel of Pain way off in the distance. ;)
