These were e-mailed to me from CROM! regular, Mikeyboy, so mad props to him! I'm not sure where he found this pic, so maybe he can elaborate. I have to say, I know a lot of you all are railing against this new Conan, but the more of these pics I see, the more excited I get about it. I think this just might work.
*UPDATE* Cromsblood tracked down the source of the photos, which you can see by clicking
HERE at The Cimmerian website, which includes the pictures re-posted below. Thanks partner!
It's tied to yet another article about how some Conan fan hates the new actor. I got a feeling that I'm going to get sick of this brand of ranting real soon.

I got the top 2 pics from Jerry Bingham ( comic book great btw ) off Facebook. Then I sent them to the estemmed Mr. Reis and Mr. Blood.
ReplyDeleteNow that I see Jason done up a little more to resmble everyones favorite Cimmerian my negative feelings are beginning to evaporate. He looks alright.
I mean the " Esteemed "
ReplyDeleteI think anyone who is ranting against the actor at this point is a being really short sighted ... from the looks of what little we've seen so far. I think he was one of the better actors from the Stargate Atlantis cast. Lets not forget Arnold had only his physique when he landed the role originally ... he was a roided out bodybuilder with little to no real acting under his belt. I think at this point the best thing to do is remain cautiously optimistic ... the fact that they are doing a Conan film project at all is exciting to me.
ReplyDeleteThat side shot does really evoke some serious Conan (IMHO). Although, like a few others who've opined regarding Mamoa, he does look a bit too unscathed to have lead the rough life of Howard's Cimmerian. Even at a young age, Howard wrote that Conan had more than a couple of gashes upon his face from former conflicts.
ReplyDeleteStill, Mamoa looks like he could kick some ass, unlike say, Jake Gyllehall who everyone's supposed to buy as an action hero/warrior in the upcoming "Prince of Persia".
At a certain point, you need to step back and let the filmmakers make their movie. Personally, I try to reserve judgment until after I see the finished product, because you never really know how a movie will work until you see it all put together.
ReplyDeleteThat really goes for casting choices. When I heard Heath Ledger was going to play the Joker in "The Dark Knight", my heart sank because I knew him from teenybopper movies like "10 Things I Hate About You" and "A Knight's Tale" -- decent movies, but nothing that would indicate Ledger had the chops to play the greatest comic book villain of all time. But, I held off on judgment until I saw the movie, and was totally blown away.
I guess what it comes down to is, give the new kid a chance. He might surprise you.
That pronounced brow on Jason gives him that rugged , worldy been there aura
