Mego Conan Gets Some New Gear!

You guys may remember a little while back when my homeboy, Greg, hooked me up with a sweet vintage Conan Mego action figure and that I went all googley-eyed over because I had been searching for one since I was 13 years old. You can read my gushing post about that HERE. Well, you may also remember that the figure wasn't completely complete as far as completeness goes. And such was my love for this figure that I just had to get the poor fellow some new gear!

So I went to a site called Dr. Mego's Repros, who specializes in reproduction parts for vintage Mego action figures. The site is downright crazy looking so I was a little worried about ordering from him at first, but sometimes when you need a reproduction Conan axe, you can't be too choosy. Turns out that this guy is top notch!

Well, $30 and three weeks later my prized Conan Mego action figure is looking sharp with his brand new boots, belts, sword and axe! I've just gotta stop typing so you all can see him in all his glory...

CROM! That's one bad ass looking Mego! So thanks to Dr. Mego for making repro parts available to collectors and once again, mad crazy thanks to Greg for one of the greatest birthday presents I ever received! (By the way, Greg's birthday was last Monday, so everyone say happy birthday to him for me!)

I'm going to say it again... CROM!

Conan Tattoo Flash!

I'm probably one of the biggest Conan fans in the world, and I happen to be pretty well inked up, too, so finding this pic got me jazzed on all fronts! Tattoo flash is the artwork you see on tattoo shop walls, where people can walk in, look it all over and then go, "I want that one!" Now, most tattoo artists I know hate using flash, but it's an evil necessity of the business.

I've thought about getting a Conan tattoo, but if I did, I'd probably go with a sweet Buscema/Chan design from the comics rather than one of these poorly rendered monstrosities. But, badly drawn or not, these are still pretty bitchin' and a nice addition the Conan pop culture phenomenon.

I love this one because it looks like Conan is about to bust a move. Break dancing Conan! CROM!

Conan Collectible Card Game!

Hail! I'm sure a lot of you have heard of the Conan CCG that came out a few years ago. Apparently it didn't sell too well, because they came and went faster than a Zamoran trollop. I never found any of the decks or booster packs. Oh well. I did manage to find some scans online and thought I'd repost them here for the hell of it.

After looking at the cards, this game looked really fun, but alas...

Enjoy!

Some Vintage Conan Collectibles!

Hail All!

I found a couple of nice pics on the Conan forum from a collector showcasing his vintage black-light Conan poster and a sweet Conan belt buckle that I had never seen before! He said he has had the belt buckle since he was a kid, and it definitely looks like it's from the '70s. Check 'em out...

Conan Swag and Ernie Chan at the Emerald City Comic Con!

This past weekend was the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, WA. and I had a friggin BLAST! I picked up a fat stack of new Conan comics to fill in some gaps...

Photobucket

Photobucket

I finally found the final issue of Conan the King. I'd been looking for that one for ages! I even managed to find some of the old comic reprint paperbacks from 1979...

Photobucket

And there was one Conan item I managed to stop myself from buying, although I'm kicking myself now, I'm still glad I saved the $80...

Photobucket

But the highlight of the day had to be meeting Ernie Chan, one of the greatest Conan artist ever and longtime collaborator of John Buscema. I always thought they were a formidable team and their Conan issues are still the best.

Photobucket

I got to take a look at some original artwork, which was unbelievably beautiful...

Photobucket

And then I got into a conversation with Mr. Chan about the good ol' days of comics, working with John Buscema and how much Conan was a part of his life. Seriously, he was the nicest guy in the world.

Photobucket

I saw his booth empty when we first got to the con (I originally didn't know he was going to be there), and made a note to come back to meet him. Later that day, I remembered that I wanted to go see him, but didn't have anything for him to sign. I always remembered Conan the Barbarian #163 because it had one of the most beautiful covers by Ernie Chan, and I kicked myself for not bringing it. But then I realize that I was at a comic book convention! Duh!

I literally picked a comic dealer by random, went to the "C's", rifled through a few comics and BAM! There it was! I asked the guy how much he wanted and he goes, "A buck." DONE! So I pay the dude and head on over to Ernie Chan. After we talked a bit, he signed it for me.

Photobucket

Then later that day, I had picked up one of those giant treasury edition Conan comics and since it was too big to put in my backpack, I was just carrying it under my arm. As we were leaving, we walked past Ernie Chan's booth and I waved and he said, "Hey! Let me sign that one too! That's a good issue!"

So, all in all, one hell of a day for a Conan fan!

Barack the Barbarian!

This is too good to be true! I first spotted this over at Calvin's Canadian Cave of Cool and then dug up the story via Newsarama.com. I'll keep this short and just let them describe it...

Photobucket

BARACK THE BARBARIAN: QUEST FOR THE TREASURE OF STIMULI: Devil's Due and Larry Hama (G.I. Joe, Wolverine) take political satire to a whole new level. Hama, a surprise hire to some, but not to those who truly know his tastes, will take a look at the current state of politics both past and present and isn't afraid to point fun at Washinton's sacred cows. In the distant future the story of Barack Obama has become a little... distorted. According to THE MADDOWIAN CHRONICLES he was the one destined to save the great republic of America and dethrone the overpaid despots of the time. Join Barack, Sorceress Hilaria, her demi-god trickster husband Biil, Overlord Boosh and Chainknee of the Elephant Kingdom. Who can the lone barbarian trust, if anyone?

What is best in life? Comic books like this! It's supposed to hit news stands in June, so keep your eyes peeled!

Conan Animated Screensaver!

Our new friend Robert, who sent us the tip on that sweet Conan online comic book sent me another link to an animated Conan screensaver for Windows XP and Vista. Here's a sneak peek at what it looks like...

Photobucket

I'll let Robert describe it in his own words...

"I have an animated Conan screensaver that Crom members might like to have. I downloaded it a long time ago from the THQ game site that makes the Conan game for PS3 and Xbox. Unfortunately they never made a version for the PC. The screensaver isn't available on their site anymore to download and I couldn't find it anywhere else available online.

The screensaver is animated: the torch flames move like real fire, light reflection gleams up his sword, and fog mist rolls across the ground."

Awesome!

Now, just to be honest here... I have not personally downloaded this or installed it on a system, so don't come crying to me if you get internet herpes from this. But I'm willing to give Robert the benefit of the doubt, we Conan fans are always looking out for each other!

You can download the screensaver HERE. Thanks again, Robert!
