By Crom!

Canadian artist Rachel Kahn has been hard at work doling out the funny in the form of a web comic over on Tumbler and as a published ebook/zine, featuring both her and our revered son of Cimmeria!  Call it what you will, or better yet call it what Rachel does - Conan the Barbarian is my spirit guide, or Conan the Barbarian versus my mundane problems, or simply By Crom!...it's quite amusing and in a way it hits pretty close to home.

Thing is, Conan was in part MY spirit guide growing up, or at least the Roy Thomas incarnation of the big guy.  Reading all those issues of Savage Sword as a kid quickly became about more than just bloodshed and boobies. Conan's views on life and the lives of others really resonated with me, and many of his decisions were those that I wanted to emulate. In the end I’d like to think that I became more socially responsible because of Roy (and REH by association).

Enough about me - below are some samples of Rachel's work.  I've added the dialog below both for the benefit of our foreign readers and for those who can't quite make out Rachel's chicken scratch!  And there's a whole lot more where these came from, just follow the link above over to Tumbler and check 'em out.  Final word: Marek, thanks once again for the glorious find!

Rachel: Some days I just feel really...alone...
Conan:  Ah.  Then we must work on your counting skills.

Rachel: I just have to tell myself that they're all as awkward and scared as I am...
Conan: Oh, they are.  Can't you smell their fear?

Rachel: What can I do when it feels like the whole universe is out to get me?
Conan:  First, I would decide if it is a worthy opponent.  If not, I prefer to laugh.

Conan:  It is basic self-defense: Do not allow robed strangers to take multiple vials of your blood.
Rachel: Look, I'm fairly certain that nurse was not an evil wizard.  I just need a cookie.

Conan: There is no knowing what they will summon if we let them continue!
Rachel: Whoah, dude, I'm not fighting the band!

Love it! Great stuff. Reminds me of the bygone days of indie comics of yore.
