Now THAT is what I'm talking about! It definitely has a different feel than the original movie, which should be expected, as I think it will be important for this version to stand on its own. Also, thank Mitra it appears to deliver a considerably higher quality of film-making than such movies as Kull the Conqueror or even Conan the Destroyer. One of my major worries was that it would come off as cheesy.

This looks truly BAD ASS!

I've got to admit that I'm a bit surprised and pleasantly so. That witch/sorceress is pretty freaking cool!

I, on the other hand, am back to sheer pessimism. This is nothing more than the bog-standard fantasy trope of "evil army sweeps across the world and a hero rises."

Conan is not a hero. He never was. The scenes in this trailer don't even look to be a good representation of the world. The original two movies I could justify by pretending it was a different Cimmerian named Conan, because at least the WORLD was well-depicted.

Sigh. We'll see. But this is depressing.

To each their own, but Conan is, always has been and always will be, a hero to me. I'm sorry for you if you can't say the same.

Jason - I do hope I can make you feel better. The world in which CONAN lived and the genre created by REH looks to be adequately exemplified here. Giant serpents...creatures rising from the sand...sweeping armies of evil perpetrating acts of the unspeakable....CONAN with his blade and his two bare hands wreaking havok wherever he goes and then quaffing down flagon after flagon of mead or ale or even stale wine to slake his thirst...ALL these things were created by REH. He was the originator of the genre. One thing that Nispel and Momoa set out to do was to be true to the source material.
You must have read the books. You must have seen films like the RINGS trilogy and 300 and the remake of CLASH of the Titans...this officially released trailer. Makes the film look good in my humble opinion. I do not nor have I ever liked the sword twirling. CONAN is a bad ass and never ever needed to do shit like that. But aside from that. This trailer makes the film look a HELLA lot better than the other films I mentioned above. CLASH was shit and I hated it. I am not speaking from bias toward CONAN I am speaking from the heart from an objective POV. I too expected some 300 or CLASH type of trailer. But what we got was something much much more. This film will rock and will do well at the box office. The only thing I don't like is when people call him KHONEN....echh! HIS name is CO-NAN! REH made sure he chose a name for his character that had strong syllibalic delivery. Yes while the actual Celtic or Irish pronunciation is Khonen ..echh!
That's not the way to say this guys name..it's CONAN!
And no...he was not a HERO in the sense of the word you mean like Captain America or Babe Ruth...but he is a powerful warrior who imspired others with his acts of bravery and courage. He made a difference wherever he roamed. I hope this made you feel better.

I've read all of the stories many times. I'm a Howard scholar. I own the REHUPA 3-volume limited set of Howard's collected letters.

What I saw in this trailer was not to my mind remotely faithful to Howard OR the Hyborian Age, and for all their talk, I have yet to see a THING (aside from one line of dialogue lifted from Queen of the Black Coast) that shows me they actually tried to be thus.

Seriously...they actually use the term "HYBORIA" in this trailer. If they had ANY intentions of being faithful to Howard at all, that word wouldn't even exist. There is no world of Hyboria. The world is Earth. The AGE was the Hyborian Age, and was never referred to it that way by its contemporary peoples.

And Conan was RARELY bare-chested and loinclothed in the stories. He wore ARMOR, and he didn't carry a special, gigantic sword. He used whatever weapons were handy and appropriate to the situation at hand.

Conan was a thief, a reaver, and a rogue, not a noble hero.

And actually, you're mispronouncing his name, Mikeyboy. The only thing I saw RIGHT in that trailer was the pronunciation of his name, which should be just like Arthur Conan Doyle or Conan O'Brien.

I'm right back where I was at the start--I can just hope and pray that this is a decent sword and sorcery movie, because the filmmakers have proven they don't care about making a good Conan film.

Jason - you are as up on your CONAN as I expected.. It is nice to see that with the pronunciation of the name you like to be a purist to all things Howard and ancient and mix them together as any good fan of any genre would be.

I however....have not ready every single Howard story ever about everything ( But I would )

But I'd like for you to go outside and stand on your roof with your weapon of choice and scream at the top of your lungs...
" I am CONAN ! " your way a few times...then try my way.
But we don't need to argue semantics. Tomato - Tomahto...I say Tomato. I'm cool with it.

But cool followers of CROM like you?
I understand your apprehension. I too have a tiny bit of anxiety as well. But I still look forward to this movie and I liked the trailer.

Meh, some scenes looked decent, but I think it looks cheesy. Better than what I had been expecting, but still think it will be lousy.

In any case, it's best to keep your hopes low. This is Hollywood, after all.

The one thing that bugs me in this trailer is the music. The rock guitar and mystical middle eastern chanting is already cliche, thanks to overuse in several fantasy films. It would be hard to top the great Anvil of Crom theme but I feel Conan should have epic orchestral music, heavy on horns and drums.

i hope its good, but im really not putting much faith in it at all. my guess is it will look like video game footage like every other 'fantasy' film that hollywood puts out these days...way to much computer graphics and slick, polished environments equals zero atmosphere. also, its in 3d so what do you expect? i bet the soundtrack will have some generic new metal band on it trying to sound 'tough'

I'm going to have to echo Jason's sentiments. The instant impression I got was Clash of the Titans (remake) mixed with The Scorpion King. Which is exactly what I wasn't hoping for. I hated the rock guitar, the sloppy effects, and I didn't buy into the notion that this was a lost epoch of earth's history I was looking at here.

It sucks, for sure, but I honestly didn't expect much from this director. His previous movies have been utter disasters.

At least Arnie with his beach-benching tan looked appropriately bronze. Oh, and to think what Ron Cobb could do with today's SFX budget (sand baddies are so 1999).

Looks like complete trash. I have also read all of REN Conan tales, along with Kull, Bran Mak Morn, etc...This is not Conan.
