...and he's got his own sticker (my kids get unhinged when you give them stickers, so I suppose that's pretty cool)...
...in addition, the Manos comics have really cool wraparound covers, some of which can be seen over on Mundo Bocato (which is an awesome blog btw, but some of it, well, nsfw).
I keep reading that Manos was originally published in Germany by Bastei-Verlag R.F.A. in 1984 under the title Wulkan, but I have never come across such a comic...I do though see THIS Wulkan comic often, which was published in 1982 by Ediciones Dalmau, and looks a lot like Manos, so I'm a little confused...
In any case, Manos was published in Spain by Editorial Bruguera, S.A., between 1984-85, and consisted of some 23 issues. If you take a close look, it's pretty easy to see just how similar Manos and Conan really are.
Whether it's while drinking a cup of ale...
Hangin' with their homies...
OK, one more example, but I think you're getting it by now...
The Savage Sword of Conan #5 vs Manos #3
The artwork in Manos was pretty much ripped off from the likes of John Buscema, and apparently when not from him, then from Victor de la Fuente...and not along the lines of paying homage, but in many cases, blatant plagiarism. Not cool!!!
That said, I still really wanted to know what Manos was all about, so I went ahead and translated the first issue, and now I'm in the know. The writer probably should have just gone ahead and plagiarized the stories too, and then they should have called it Conan instead of Manos, and it would have been a damn fine read!
But don't take my word for it, you decide! Here's Manos #01 – Hell’s Counterstrike (in English, of course)...

MAN OH MAN this stuff is awesome! Where do you find these things?
What an awesome find! Seriously, Cromsblood, you find the coolest stuff. Every country has their take on Conan, eh?
@Mikeyboy - Thanks! I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. Seriously though, most of it starts with google searches, a lot of evenings and weekends following leads, and a whole lot of google translate.
@Reis - Thanks! Yah, So many more "Conan-alikes" to post, but the foreign stuff takes a fair amount of time to research so I get my story straight.
pretty dope yet another blog to follow
I think that one cover is a Sanjulian copy too. Being this series was from another country I don't mind the ripped off traced art...or whatever. But yeah..I agree...just call it CONAN!
I had a great time during my childhood reading Manos and his adventures thanks to the Bruguera edition. It was my monthly complementary reading of Conan the Barbarian and the Savage Sword of Conan.
A few months ago I was living in Argentina but my comic collection was in Spain, so, curiously, I remembered Manos and I ran a "no price" contest in my blog asking people to find the different drawings in Manos that were copied from the Conan copies.
Greetings and congrats on such a nice blog.
Kilian
"conan comics" I meant in my last line.
Kilian,
Thanks! It was actually your Manos post that helped me find the first two examples (SSOC #49 and #50) in this post.
I enjoy your blog as well, great stuff!
actually that cover of Wulcan is a knock off of the cover of Savage sword # 12 by BORIS ...he swiped the pose and just moved the girl from a laying position to a sitting position. HOWEVER great artistic skill is required in many of these cases. Especially to paint. But the b/w interiors were simple light box jobs.
I'm not surprised this Mano guy stinks. Most Conan imations suck from Claw to Ironjaws.Back in 1970,s I came with own character Toreus and I'll tell it ain't easy.I'm stilling working Prince Toreus Rhann,as he called as novel. Some sort stories and other are on my blogs.Don't Bob Howard.Even screwed in places and the other writers.
"Manos" was published in Germany from 1980-1983 in all 80 issues of "Geister Geschichten", sharing the series with various other, unrelated short stories.
After cancelation the series was rebooted as "Manos" in 1983 lasting only 1 year and 26 issues (both series were published bi-weekly).
And the artist also swiped from Hal Foster as well.
